The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird was a legendary US Air Force spy plane during the Cold War. It could reach an altitude of almost 26 km and flew at Mach-3, three times the speed of sound. She flew so high and so fast that she was out of reach for the USSR's surface-to-air missiles at the time and could take photos without being bothered. In addition, it was one of the first aircraft to be equipped with stealth technology, making it almost invisible to radar.
